Add CHM files

There are 3 ways to add CHM files to ReadCHM

  1. Via Wi-Fi
    • Tap "Library"
    • Tap "Add"
    • You should see something like below (with a different value for the URL)

    • Open a browser from your computer and browse to the URL provided
    • Click Choose File and choose a CHM file
    • Click Submit

  2. Via iTunes (not supported for iPhone/iPod Touch running iOS 3.x)
    • Connect the device to the computer and start iTunes
    • Click on the device icon appeared under the Devices group, the Summary page for the device should be shown
    • Select the Apps tab (located on the right on the Info tab, which is on the right of the Summary tab)

    • Select the ReadCHM icon located in the Apps folder at the bottom of the screen (under File Sharing group)

    • Drag CHM files from the computer to the ReadCHM Documents area (or click the Add button and select files to add)
    • The added books should now be available in ReadCHM library
  3. Via other applications (not supported for iPhone/iPod Touch running iOS 3.x)
    • Select a CHM file in DropBox or Mail application
    • Tap "Open In" icon
    • Tap ReadCHM


Delete CHM files

There are 2 ways to delete books in ReadCHM

  • Using iTunes (not supported for iPhone/iPod Touch running iOS 3.x)
    • Follow the steps described here to browse to the ReadCHM Documents area in iTunes
    • Select the file(s) you want to delete
    • Press the "Delete" key
    • iTunes will ask for confirmation of the delete action
    • Click "OK"
  • Inside the ReadCHM application
  • Tap "Library"
  • Tap "Edit"
  • Tap on the Delete icon right next to each book

Bookmark

  1. Bookmark a section

    Follow these steps to bookmark a section so that you can return to it later

    • Tap and hold the word which you want to bookmark until the context menu is displayed
    • Tap "More..."

    • Tap "Bookmark"
  2. Go to a bookmarked location

    Follow these steps to go to a previously bookmarked location

    • Tap the bookmark button in the menu bar

    • Tap the bookmark you want to navigate to
    • ReadCHM should browse to the location identified by the bookmark

      Note: sometimes the exact location of the bookmark in a page couldn't be determined, ReadCHM will bring you to the top of the section instead


Lookup text using Google / Wikipedia / Email text

Follow these steps to lookup a word using Google or Wikipedia

  • Tap and hold a word until the context menu is displayed
  • Tap "More..."

  • Either tap "Google", "Wikipedia" or Mail

Configure settings

  1. Enable/disable Remember Last Reading

    Follow these steps to enable or disable "Remember Last Reading" option. This option is ON by default.

    • Exit ReadCHM by pressing "Home" button on your iPad
    • Tap "Settings" (usually in the front page of your iPad)
    • Tap "ReadCHM" in Apps section 
    • Tap "On" or "Off", depending on what you want

  2. Enable/disable "Pinch Zoom"

    Follow these steps to enable or disable "Pinch Zoom" option. This option is OFF by default.

    • Tap the Settings icon
    • In the Advanced Settings section, tap Pinch Zoom to turn it ON or OFF
    • Tap outside the Settings box
    • If Pinch Zoom is ON, you can pinch zoom your current reading page
  3. Enable/disable "Double-Tap"
  4. Follow these steps to enable or disable "Double-Tap" option. This option is ON by default.

    • Tap the Settings icon
    • In the Advanced Settings section, tap Double Tap to turn it ON or OFF
    • Tap outside the Settings box
    • If Double Tap is ON, you can double tap to turn to the next or previous page
  5. Enable/disable "Incremental Search"

    Incremental search allows you to see search results as soon as you finish typing a character. Follow these steps to enable or disable "Incremental Search" option. This option is ON by default.

    • Tap the Settings icon
    • In the Advanced Settings section, tap Incremental Search to turn it ON or OFF
    • Tap outside the Settings box
    • If Incremental Search is ON, you can double tap to turn to the next or previous page
  6. Change encoding to read a CHM file

    While CHM automatically detects encoding CHM files, in the rare case when the text in a CHM file doesn't appear correctly, you might need to tell ReadCHM the correct encoding of the book.

    Follow these steps to change the encoding.

    • Tap the Settings icon
    • In the Advanced Settings section, tap "Text Encoding"
    • Select an encoding in the list
    • Tap "Done"

    If the text still doesn't appear correct, attempt another encoding.
